On 15th May 2026, the Chief Minister of Sierra Leone, David Moinina Sengeh, made a historic visit to the renowned Mulu Poultry Farm in Koidu City, Kono District. The visit marked a significant milestone for the agricultural sector in the district, particularly in poultry production and agribusiness development.

The purpose of the field visit was to tour the facility and to gain firsthand knowledge of the farm’s operations, achievements, and future expansion plans. Upon arrival, the Chief Minister was warmly received by the management and staff of the farm, led by the Farm Manager, Mr. Alusine Saccoh, who guided the Chief Minister through the various operational sections of the facility.

During the conducted tour, Mr. Saccoh highlighted the extensive operations of the farm, which currently houses over 3,000 birds using the first-ever Battery Cage System introduced in Kono District. He explained the farm’s modern poultry management practices, including routine medical check-ups, periodic vaccination programs, environmental sanitation measures, manure collection systems, egg collection and packaging processes, as well as maintenance and care procedures implemented to ensure high productivity and quality standards.

The Farm Manager further disclosed that the farm supplies eggs and poultry products to local markets, restaurants, hotels, retailers, and bulk buyers across different parts of Sierra Leone, including Freetown, Bo, Makeni, and Pujehun. He emphasized that the increasing demand for poultry products continues to encourage the farm’s commitment toward greater production and improved service delivery.

Mr. Saccoh also acknowledged the support received through the Food Systems Resilience Program, which provided the farm with a delivery van and additional machinery support under its umbrella agricultural enterprise, Chuma Agro. The agricultural support initiative is helping to mechanize farming activities in the region by offering machinery rental services aimed at reducing manual labour and improving agricultural productivity among local farmers.

Following the tour, Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh commended the remarkable efforts of the Chief Executive Officer of Mulu Poultry Farm, Mrs. Sitta Kaikai, describing her as a shining example of female leadership and entrepreneurship within Sierra Leone’s private agricultural sector. He praised her dedication, innovation, and contribution toward strengthening food production and employment opportunities in Kono District.

Dr. Sengeh reiterated Government’s commitment to supporting private sector agricultural businesses through grants, partnerships, and development initiatives aimed at boosting national food security. He encouraged citizens to patronize locally-owned agricultural enterprises as part of the Government flagship “Feed Salone” initiative, which seeks to promote sustainable food production and economic growth across the country.

The Chief Minister also applauded the young people doing internship at the farm, encouraging them to remain committed to their work while taking advantage of the learning opportunities provided through the institution. He noted that the farm serves as an important center for agricultural learning, practical training, and youth empowerment in poultry farming and agribusiness development within Kono District and Sierra Leone as a whole.

Management of Mulu Poultry Farm disclosed plans for future expansion into fish farming, greenhouse farming, and vegetable cultivation. The farm also aims to increase its poultry capacity from 3,000 birds to 10,000 birds through grants, partnerships, and continued institutional support.

The visit by the Chief Minister stands as a major encouragement to agricultural entrepreneurs and reflects Government’s growing interest in supporting food production, private sector investment, and sustainable agricultural transformation in Sierra Leone.
