Mulu Poultry Farm marked a major milestone in agricultural development in Kono District on 15 May 2026, when the Minister of Agriculture officially commissioned the farm, a private-sector investment designed to increase access to fresh, locally produced eggs and contribute to Sierra Leone’s food-security ambitions.
The farm has a capacity of 3,000 layer birds and is equipped with an off-grid solar-powered energy system, a borehole water supply, and an official website—key facilities intended to support reliable operations, improve access to information, and strengthen the farm’s ability to serve customers.
Speaking at the launch, Chief Executive Officer Madam Sitta Kaikai, a private-sector business entrepreneur, encouraged the Government and development partners to continue supporting promising agricultural ventures. She also called on consumers, retailers, hotels, restaurants, and other businesses to patronise Mulu Poultry Farm and buy locally produced eggs.
Madam Kaikai said the investment represents an important step towards responding to the growing demand for fresh poultry eggs in Kono District and beyond. The farm’s battery-cage production system is the first of its kind in the district, positioning Mulu Poultry as a new contributor to local poultry production and the wider agricultural value chain.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by stakeholders from across Kono District, who welcomed the venture and encouraged the public to support the farm. Their commendation reflected the importance of private-sector investment, local production, and collaboration in building a more resilient food system.
Mulu Poultry Farm’s development aligns with the objectives of the Government’s Feed Salone initiative, which seeks to strengthen domestic food production, improve food availability, and reduce dependence on imported food products. Investments in poultry, renewable energy, and essential infrastructure can help build a stronger and more sustainable agricultural sector.
Mulu Poultry Farm is inviting households and businesses to support this milestone by choosing fresh eggs produced in Sierra Leone. Through continued collaboration among farmers, government, partners, and consumers, the farm aims to play a meaningful role in meeting local demand and advancing food security.
